JAMSPORT MAKES MINI CHALLENGE RETURN

JamSport has confirmed that it will return to the Vertu Motors MINI CHALLENGE this season after announcing an entry into the JCW class with Marlo Cordell.

The 19-year-old first joined forces with the team mid-way through the 2021 season, making his debut the ST150 class of the BRSCC Fiesta Championship.

Running alongside more powerful ST240 cars, he scored six class podiums to take third in the ST150 standings, despite missing the opening two rounds.

Cordell would also appear with the team in the Britcar Endurance Championship, taking a double T2 class win during the ‘Into the Night’ races at Brands Hatch alongside JamSport boss Jamie Going.

Moving up into the turbo-charged ST240 class last season, he would bring home a top-eight championship finish with his best result of the campaign coming in the season finale at Brands Hatch, where he crossed the line in second spot.

Cordell also spent the year working alongside JamSport’s TCR UK team as a development driver.

Eager to progress to the next level in his career, Cordell now graduates into the MINI CHALLENGE as one of a number of rookies set to compete in the JCW class this season.

The teenager has already had chance to sample the car during winter testing, where he has worked closely with Ant Whorton-Eales – winner of the MINI CHALLENGE title with JamSport back in 2018.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my racing career with JamSport Racing,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds in a championship where JamSport has previously found a lot of success.

“I’m sure that working alongside Ant will give me the best chance of success in the 2023 season.”

Team boss Going said he was confident that Cordell would continue to impress on track during the year ahead.

“Marlo came to us with very minimal experience and completed his first full season in 2022,” he said. “We decided to make Marlo our development driver last year and by doing this, he gained lots of invaluable skills and experience by being in and around not only our Fiesta team but also our TCR team.

“He’s gone from strength to strength. I’m very proud of what Marlo has achieved and look forward to the season ahead.”
