SAM GORNALL DOES THE DOUBLE AT OULTON PARK

Sam Gornall made it two wins from two in the Power Maxed MINI CHALLENGE at Oulton Park, albeit only after surviving a post-race investigation into a clash with Josh Porter whilst dicing for the lead.

Porter had started from pole and held the lead going into turn one, with Tanner grabbing second from Gornall only for the race one winner to immediately fight back on the run down the Avenue.

Charlie Hand got away well to move into fourth, with points leader Tom Ovenden and his EXCELR8 team-mate Olivier Algieri behind.

Porter held a sizeable lead at the end of lap one but soon found himself being reeled in by the pack behind as Gornall looked to add to his victory in the opening race on Saturday.

Behind, Algieri was on a charge and nipped ahead of Ovenden into sixth.

Gornall closed up to the rear of Porter by mid-way through the third lap, and had a look down the inside going through Knickerbrook in an effort to get a run up Clay Hill.

However, contact between the pair resulted in Porter going off into the barriers on the outside of the circuit as he retired from the lead for the second day in a row.

The loss of momentum allowed Tanner to get a run on Gornall through Druids and on to Lodge, but rather than get ahead, Tanner came under attack from Hand who grabbed second.

That set the positions for the remainder of the race as Gornall edged clear at the front to take the flag first ahead of Hand and Tanner, with Algieri fourth from Ovenden.

Henry Howarth rounded out the top six following a battling drive that included a clash with team-mate Archie Johnson at Lodge.

That cost Johnson positions as he eventually took the flag ninth behind Alex Solley and Cameron Richardson, with the top ten completed by Nathan Edwards, who held off Harry Hickton in the battle of the two drivers who started at the back after qualifying dramas.

Following the race however, Algieri was hit with a three place penalty for contact with Solley in the early stages of the race, promoting Ovenden, Howarth and Solley up a spot.

Whilst Porter was the only retirement, total hopeful Max Edmundson endured a race to forget as he finished back in 16th having been forced to complete a long lap after going straight on at the hairpin.

In JCW Sport, normal service was resumed as Alfie Garford secured another win, grabbing the lead from team-mate Murray Richardson early on and remaining out front throughout.
