Reigning Mini Challenge just fell short of a hattrick of wins in the opening rounds at Rockingham, when Chris Panayiotou clinched his maiden victory in the final race of the weekend. Only 0.769s secs covered the top three after qualifying, with Caudle’s new John Cooper Works Class car taking pole from ex Formula Vee and Formula Ford racer Jason Mills, with Panayiotou in third. Lee Allen just had the edge over Steve Liquorish for S Class pole and debutant David Ogden topped the Club Class.

The first event for 2010 at Rockingham produced the expected great racing that is the MINI Challenge. The first race for the new John Cooper Works class was won by the current MINI Challenge Champion Luke Caudle, but it doesn’t look like he will have an easy run through the season as challenges will come from Chris Panayiotou the race three winner, Chris Knox, Chris Oakham, and the unlucky Jason Mills, who showed real pace before being sidelined. The Dunlop Great & British media day at Castle Combe was a great success. Despite the changeable conditions drivers had a great opportunity to give passenger rides to their sponsors and show their skills in some very tricky conditions. Film crew and photographers had opportunity to shoot some excellent on circuit action, and the new on board cameras were tested in some extreme positions.
